One of the "crafty" things that I absolutely love is doing Project life.
Documenting the stories of our lives throughout the year. I love being able to look back over our years and to remember the memories, from the big events that happened, down to the small quirky things that happen in our day to day life.
I got into doing project life by doing December Daily in 2015.
December Daily is a documenting project created by Ali Edwards. I have absolutely fallen in love with this project. I have always been obsessed with Christmas, it is my absolute favorite time of the year for me, plus it's also my birthday month.
What Ali's project December Daily has taught me is to slow down in December, it is a very busy month and we seem to race through the month trying to get everything planned and organized ready for Christmas, and the month just flies by.
But this project has given me the tool to focus on the small moments, to focus on making memories, not just plans. It allows me to focus on the Christmas traditions and the creating of new ones. The project gives me a creative outlet for me to record the stories of the season.
In 2016, I started to document our lives month by month using
Project Life. A project created by Becky Higgins. I started to focus on taking more photos of our life and recording the moments, the big events right down to the small little quirky things.
Quite quickly into the year, I knew that I had fallen in love with this project as well. I love being able to look back on our life, looking at the photos and reading the stories of memories that had since been forgotten.
In 2017 I decided to change from doing 6x8 album, monthly layouts to document the year. I changed it to start doing project life on a weekly basis in a 12x12 album.
This was more of a challenge for me but in a good way. It challenged me to take more photos, to record more stories. And throughout the year I slowly progressed and improved.
In 2018 I decided to continue the same layout as 2017. One thing that I learned throughout 2018 was thanks to Ali Edwards. In her classes, her project life kits, and her way of documenting, she has taught me the importance of focusing not only on the photos but also in the quality of the story tell.
Project life is one project that I intend to continue for years to come. It's is important to record your stories. Even if it's just for yourself, your stories matter. I craft for myself as a stress reliever, as a creative outlet. It's my memory keeping, my journaling.
"We all have stories to tell and that stories matter."
